WordPress maintenance and support

Maintenance and support

WordPress maintenance and support for bespoke websites – keeping your site secure, fast and reliable.

Why ongoing care matters

Modern WordPress sites are living systems. New content, changing plugins, security updates, browser changes, third-party integrations can all create issues if left unchecked.

Without regular care, even the best-built website can start to:

→  Slow down and feel less responsive
→  Break when plugins or PHP versions move on
→  Become vulnerable to security issues
→  Drift away from the original design and UX

Our support and maintenance plans are designed to protect your investment in bespoke design and development — and keep your site feeling as good as it did on launch day.

What our WordPress support covers

Core, theme and plugin updates

We handle updates safely and systematically, including:

→ WordPress core updates
→ Theme and plugin updates (with compatibility checks)
→ Staging and testing for major changes before they go live
→ Fixes if an update causes issues

Security and monitoring

We keep a close eye on your site’s health with:

→ Hardened logins with Two-Factor Authentication
→ Security scanning and monitoring
→ Brute-force and spam protection
→ Alerts if anything suspicious happens

Backups and recovery

If the worst happens, we can roll back quickly:

→ Automated backups (daily as standard)
→ Off-site backup storage
→ A tested restore process, so we know it works when needed

Performance and optimisation

Bespoke sites deserve bespoke performance:

→ Regular performance checks
→ Image and asset optimisation
→ Caching and database clean-up
→ Recommendations for larger optimisation work when it’s needed

Easy CMS editing, with support when you need it

We customise your CMS so updating content is straightforward, even with limited technical experience. Editable areas are clearly labelled, and you can build layouts using the components we provide — without drifting off brand.

If you ever need a hand, we can help with small content updates, layout tweaks, or advice on getting the best from your design system.

Support from people who understand bespoke builds

Because we work with custom designs and custom themes, we’re comfortable supporting:

→ Advanced templates and bespoke blocks
→ Custom post types and fields
→ Integrations (forms, CRM, email tools, booking systems, e-commerce)

You’re not squeezed into a generic support model designed for off-the-shelf themes.

Our maintenance and support process

1

Site audit

We begin with a technical and visual review of your existing WordPress build:

→ Theme structure and custom functionality
→ Plugin stack and potential risks
→ Hosting environment and performance
→ Security, backups and current processes

2

Onboarding and stabilisation

We resolve urgent issues, set up backups and monitoring, and document how your bespoke build works so we can support it properly.

3

Ongoing care

Each month we:

→ Apply and test updates
→ Run security and performance checks
→ Respond to monitoring alerts
→ Carry out included support tasks or content tweaks (depending on plan)

4

Review and refine

For higher-tier plans, we review what’s working, what’s changing in your business and where the site can be improved or extended.

Why choose Union 10

Union 10 is built for bespoke WordPress sites. If your site uses a custom theme, bespoke blocks, advanced functionality or integrations, you need support that understands how it was put together — not a generic, template-first approach.

Because we’re a small agency, support is quick and personal. You’ll speak directly to the people who know your site, and we’ll keep communication clear and jargon-free. We’re proactive, responsive, and we’ll always explain what matters in plain English.

We also take a long-term, process-led approach. Updates, backups, monitoring and testing are handled carefully to protect your site, and we’ll work with your hosting setup (WP Engine or otherwise) to keep everything secure, stable and optimised. With both designers and developers involved, you get support that protects performance while keeping layouts and UX in shape as your site evolves.

Is our support right for you?

Our support and maintenance is ideal if:

→ Your website is a bespoke WordPress build, not a generic template
→ Your site plays a key role in your brand, sales, or lead generation
→ You want specialist WordPress care — not a generic IT contract
→ You’d rather have a trusted partner on hand than wrestle with updates yourself

If you’ve outgrown cheap hosting and DIY updates, this is the next step.

FAQs

FAQs

If you have a question, please use our short form to send it over. We’re always happy to chat.

Ask a question

No. If something is quick to fix, we will not charge for it. Unlike many agencies, we do not bill for every small request. We value the relationships we have with our clients and often find that a quick call or small tweak helps keep everything running smoothly without needing to raise an invoice.

For larger changes or new features, we will always outline the cost before any work begins.

Of course not. We are committed to long-term relationships with our clients and are always here to support you. If you need guidance, advice or help with your CMS, we are only a message or call away. You will never be left to figure things out alone.

That’s completely fine. We can provide training so you feel confident managing basic updates, with the option to call on us if something more technical comes up.

Yes. If you are on a maintenance plan, we prioritise urgent issues, even outside normal working hours. We understand that some websites are critical for bookings and day-to-day operations, especially for businesses like restaurants.

With good hosting in place (Wp Engine), we can also set up uptime monitoring so we are alerted immediately if your site goes down, allowing us to act quickly.

Absolutely. We can take over bespoke WordPress sites built by other agencies. We’ll start with an audit, understand how its build, identify risks and stabilise the site before moving into ongoing care.

As a small agency, we pride ourselves on responding quickly. You will not be passed through call centres or switchboards. We know our clients and their sites, which means you get help from someone who understands your build straight away.

Most quick queries are handled there and then. When it is helpful, we prefer to share screens and walk through the solution with you on Teams so the problem is solved in real time.

Maintenance plans are designed to look after the health of your site, which means keeping software up to date, monitoring security and ensuring everything runs smoothly. Content changes are not usually included as standard.

However, we do offer retainers for clients who want regular help with content updates. If a request falls outside your plan, we will always let you know in advance and provide a clear cost before any work begins.

For smaller tasks, we work on a timed basis and bill at the end of each month. This covers quick design tweaks, minor layout adjustments or small feature changes.

For larger pieces of work, we will scope the task with you first and provide a fixed cost for the project. This way you know exactly what is involved before anything begins.

No. We recommend it, but it is not compulsory. We are always happy to help when needed. Training is available and we can show you how to update the site software yourself. Some clients prefer to be more hands-on and technical, while others would rather leave the updates to us.

What matters is keeping WordPress and its plugins up to date. Regular updates are essential for security, stability and making sure everything continues to work correctly.

Yes — daily backups are essential. If the unexpected happens, you need a reliable restore point to get your site back online quickly. Software bugs, failed updates or even accidentally deleting important content can take a site down without warning.

After all the time and effort you’ve invested in your website, it’s vital to protect it and avoid downtime that could cost you business.
